Navy Widow Awarded $1.4M Over Asbestos Claims

Law360, New York (April 27, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Los Angeles jury has handed $1.4 million to the widow of a U.S. Navy serviceman who contracted mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos during his time on various naval vessels over the course of two decades.

A jury in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, ruled Friday in favor of the family of now-deceased Earl Ogle Haupt III, finding that they should be paid a million for loss of consortium and $450,861 in economic damages.
