Union Rep Embezzled To Feed Opioid Addiction, Atty Says
Law360, Boston (December 1, 2017, 2:01 PM EST) -- A longtime organizer of Boston's service industry union pled guilty on Friday to embezzling more than $170,000 over five years to satisfy what his attorney called a "raging" addiction to opioid pills.
Former Unite Here Local 26 Financial Secretary-Treasurer Henry Clay Green Sr. was prescribed oxycodone, a potent and widely abused pain medication, after a surgery and became hooked, attorney J. W. Carney Jr. said.
"He just became addicted to it and embezzled the funds to support his drug habit," Green's attorney said.
