TD Ameritrade Ducks Class Action Over Investment Strategy

By Reenat Sinay (May 14, 2019, 1:25 PM EDT) -- TD Ameritrade and an Indiana investment advisory firm escaped a putative investor class action over a deceptively risky trading strategy Monday after an Illinois federal judge ruled the investors are barred by federal law from bringing state law class action claims.

U.S. District Judge Charles P. Kocoras permanently tossed the case accusing the electronic trading platform and Indiana-based Sheaff Brock Investment Advisors LLC of misleading investors about a supposedly low-risk options trading strategy that the proposed class said turned out to be high-risk, leading them to lose an undisclosed amount of money.
