SEC Whistleblowers Net $83M In Largest Ever Bounties

By Ed Beeson (March 19, 2018, 3:59 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday approved its largest ever whistleblower awards, agreeing to pay out roughly $83 million combined to three tipsters, who are represented by Labaton Sucharow LLP, according to the firm.

The two awards, separately worth over $49 million and over $33 million, blew past the SEC's previous high-water mark, a more than $30 million bounty it gave out in 2014 to an overseas whistleblower.

The SEC didn't identify the enforcement action that Monday's whistleblowers helped to bring. But according to Labaton, it was the SEC's $415 million settlement with Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith...
