Powerine Oil Co. asked a California federal court on Friday to hold more than 10 current and previous property and business owners partially responsible for cleanup costs at a central California Superfund site and to compel the parties to stop releasing substances that Powerine says continue to contaminate groundwater.

A slew of defense, health care and media companies sued ExxonMobil Corp., Union Pacific Corp. and several other chemical and petroleum processing companies in California federal court on Friday, seeking help to pay cleanup measures stemming from decades of contamination at a Central California Superfund site.
