Feds Lose Bid To Stay Calif. Same-Sex Benefits Suit

Law360, New York (March 17, 2011, 7:29 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government has lost a motion to stay a putative class action brought by California state employees and their same-sex spouses accusing state and federal agencies of restricting access to long-term care insurance from the state retirement system.

Judge Claudia Wilken in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California denied the federal government’s bid to stay all proceedings for 60 days, but delayed a few specific deadlines as necessary to allow new counsel to participate.
