Alleged Scalpers Must Face Ticketmaster's Infringement Suit

Law360 (May 30, 2018, 5:47 PM EDT) -- A pair of companies cannot escape a suit from Ticketmaster accusing them of violating cybersecurity laws and contributing to copyright infringement by using bots to purchase large numbers of tickets for resale, with a California federal judge finding that there was enough evidence to support the ticket giant's claims.

U.S. District Court Judge Otis D. Wright II said Tuesday that Ticketmaster LLC had presented plausible evidence that Prestige Entertainment West Inc. and Renaissance Ventures LLC contributed to infringement by unnamed bot developers, given that the companies used bots created by those developers to purchase tickets en masse.
