France OKs Merger After Investigating 'Influencer' Market
Law360 (May 24, 2019, 8:00 PM EDT) -- France's competition watchdog gave the green light Friday to online media company Webedia's acquisition of audiovisual production company Elephant after the agency for the first time considered the growing role of so-called influencers on internet and social media platforms.
The Autorité de la Concurrence, or Competition Authority, said it was notified of Webedia's planned takeover of The Elephant Group in April, noting that its review of the deal required it to examine the relatively new marketing role of influencers because of the services both companies offer to them.
