Although this breach was just the latest in a seemingly endless series of cyberattacks targeting large data-rich companies, it was particularly egregious for two reasons. First, the scale of the breach was unprecedented — highly sensitive information relating to about half the adult population of the United States was stolen. Second, the hack occurred at Equifax, a company that ostensibly specializes in keeping data secure....
