Cremation Co. To Pay $1.7M To End Sales Reps' Wage Suit
Law360 (May 22, 2019, 5:47 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge has greenlighted a settlement of about $1.7 million for a proposed class of sales representatives who claimed a cremation company orchestrated an “elaborate scheme” to avoid paying minimum wages and overtime by misclassifying them as independent contractors.
U.S. District Judge Otis D Wright II on Tuesday granted the SCI Direct Inc. sales representatives’ motion for preliminary approval of the deal, which provides $1.65 million to be divided among 240 potential class members.
