One-Armed Man Accuses Starbucks Of Job Bias

Law360, New York (February 15, 2012, 8:22 PM EST) -- Starbucks Corp. was hit with a discrimination suit in California state court last week by a job seeker who claims a store manager for the coffee chain refused to hire him because he has only one arm.

Plaintiff Eli Pierre interviewed for a position at a Starbucks store in San Diego, Calif., on Feb. 1, according to a complaint filed Feb. 8.

Pierre brought up his disability during the course of the interview, but said it wouldn't be an issue. But the store manager interviewing Pierre told him, “you can't work here with one arm,” the complaint says.
