Afghan Fuel Contracts Lack Oversight, Watchdog Says

Law360, Washington (April 13, 2018, 7:41 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense continues to have trouble keeping track of fuel purchased for the Afghan government despite changes instituted after discovering millions of dollars of fuel theft, the Special Inspector General reported Friday.

Thefts from the more than 2.8 billion gallons of fuel purchased by either the U.S. military or Afghan forces have totaled more than $154 million, according to the report, and those thefts may have helped support the Taliban.
