Law360 (July 9, 2019, 4:20 PM EDT) -- A U.S. Senate subcommittee held two recent hearings related to the Asia Reassurance Initiative Act, or ARIA, at a critical time for the legislation, which seeks to develop a long-term strategic vision and U.S. policy for the Indo-Pacific region.
The Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy focused on human rights and democracy at an April 9 hearing, and on the economic and trade benefits of ARIA at a May 23 hearing. These two hearings elicited positive reactions from Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, members, including Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea....
