Judge Won't Split Discovery In SemGroup Action

Law360, New York (December 22, 2010, 3:34 PM EST) -- A federal judge has shot down an effort by a slew of defendants, including Goldman Sachs & Co. and J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, to bifurcate class certification and merits discovery in a putative securities class action stemming from the collapse of SemGroup LP.

Judge Gregory K. Frizzell of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma on Tuesday nixed the defendants bid to limit discovery to issues relevant to class certification, staying merits discovery pending resolution of the plaintiffs’ anticipated motion for class certification....
