DOD's Contractor Inventory Falls Short Again, GAO Finds

Law360, Chicago (April 9, 2012, 7:05 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense needs to boost accountability for its inventory of contracted services and cut back on using contractors for jobs that are best performed by government employees, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported Friday.

In a review of the DOD's inventory for fiscal year 2010, the GAO found that while the DOD made some improvements over the previous year — such as centrally preparing contract data for greater consistency among its components — the department has made only "limited progress" in addressing inventory...
