UnitedHealth Hit With ERISA Suit Over Insurance Nonpayments

Law360, New York (November 2, 2015, 7:32 PM EST) -- UnitedHealth Group Inc. and its subsidiaries were slapped with a $260 million federal lawsuit Friday by a New Jersey hospital alleging the company didn’t pay out for services that were covered under patients’ insurance plans, in violation of the Employment Retirement Income Security Act. 

Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center alleges the insurer and its AmeriChoice and Oxford Health divisions tried to deceive the hospital into thinking it was an in-network facility in order to force it to accept in-network rates, which are lower than out-of-network rates, and...
