Union Official Pleads Guilty To Embezzlement, Seeks No Jail

Law360 (April 6, 2018, 8:38 PM EDT) -- A former official at a union local accused by New Jersey federal prosecutors of defrauding a health care plan pled guilty to an embezzlement charge on Friday, with his attorney saying no one lost any money and he would ask for a sentence with no prison time.

Sergio Acosta, 65, pled guilty to withholding less than $550,000 in premiums from the United Auto Workers Local 2326 benefit fund, court documents show. According to the plea deal, prosecutors will seek a sentence of at least two years...
