Google, Others Reveal Products May Have Conflict Minerals

Law360, New York (June 2, 2014, 11:19 PM EDT) -- Several companies including Google Inc. and Deere & Co. disclosed Monday that their products may contain so-called "conflict minerals" exploited by armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and adjoining countries.

Google and Deere were among more than 1,000 companies that filed their first-ever reports with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission disclosing whether their products contain minerals like gold, tin and tungsten — referred to in regulatory filings as "3TG" — that are known to be used to fund African rebel groups, as well as the companies' efforts to locate the sources of those minerals.
