ITC Makes Tariffs Official In Heated US-Canada Lumber Fight

Law360, New York (December 7, 2017, 2:58 PM EST) -- A sprawling dispute between the U.S. and Canada saw the tension ratcheted up even higher Thursday as the U.S. International Trade Commission unanimously approved a slate of new tariffs on imports of softwood lumber from Canada.

The ITC’s 4-0 vote hands a victory to the U.S. Lumber Coalition, which led the charge for new anti-dumping and countervailing duties after years of negotiation to strike a diplomatic resolution fell short, teeing up a new front in a trade dispute that has lingered for decades.
