Singled Out In Patent Bill, DataTreasury Files New Suit
Law360, New York (September 9, 2011, 4:08 PM EDT) -- On the same day the U.S. Senate passed a patent reform bill containing a provision targeting DataTreasury Corp.'s check-imaging patents, the company launched a new infringement suit Thursday in Texas federal court against Fifth Third Bank and dozens of others.
The new suit alleges that the defendants, including First United Bank and Cathay Bank, have infringed the same two patents, issued to DataTreasury founder Claudio Ballard, that numerous major banks have paid $350 million to license after being sued.
