Rick Ross Dodges 'Mastermind' TM Suit After Cancellation

Law360, Los Angeles (December 19, 2016, 6:28 PM EST) -- Rapper Rick Ross escaped a trademark infringement suit over the title of his 2014 album “Mastermind” on Friday after a California federal judge ordered the cancellation of a Los Angeles hip-hop artist’s trademark registration on the phrase, finding consumers wouldn’t automatically connect it with its owner.

Raul Caiz filed the suit against Ross alleging infringement of his trademark for “Mastermind” and has used the term extensively throughout his 17-year music career.
