Jury Finds Chinese Scientist Guilty In Stolen Seeds Plot

Law360, Los Angeles (February 16, 2017, 10:36 PM EST) -- A Kansas federal jury on Thursday found a Chinese agricultural scientist guilty of three charges related to a conspiracy to steal cutting-edge rice seeds from a biopharmaceutical research facility in order to send them back to his native country.

Weiquiang Zhang was accused of stealing hundreds of rice seeds containing recombinant human proteins from Ventria Bioscience, where he worked as a rice breeder, and conspiring to give them to Chinese researchers.
