Torrent Pharma Accused Of Distributing Tainted Pills

Law360 (May 21, 2019, 9:10 PM EDT) -- Torrent Pharma Inc. was hit Tuesday with a proposed class action in New Jersey federal court alleging the Indian drugmaker distributed generic hypertension medications that were contaminated with possible cancer-causing chemicals.

The complaint, filed by consumers hailing from four states, asserted that Torrent continued to sell contaminated losartan-containing medications after an initial set of recalls, leading to a subsequent recall last month of more than a million additional bottles.

The company misrepresented the medications as “containing no NDEA and/or NMBA,” referring to N-Nitrosodiethylamine and N-Methylnitrosobutyric acid, and as “being generally recognized as safe for human consumption,” according to the complaint....
