PTAB Partly Axes Music Choice Patent In Row With Rival

Law360 (October 12, 2018, 10:03 PM EDT) -- The Patent Trial and Appeal Board on Thursday gave a partial win to Stingray Digital Group Inc. in its bitter patent fight with rival music channel provider Music Choice, finding that part of a Music Choice patent for on-demand entertainment systems is invalid as obvious.

Both Horsham, Pennsylvania-based Music Choice and Montreal-based Stingray offer digital music and music video channels that are carried on cable, satellite and broadband services. Music Choice sued Stingray in the Eastern District of Texas in 2016, alleging infringement of five patents, and Stingray challenged the patents at the PTAB.
