Bell Canada Gets OK For $1.3B CTV Buy

Law360, New York (March 8, 2011, 12:48 PM EST) -- Canada's telecommunications regulator on Monday cleared BCE Inc.'s CA$1.3 billion ($1.34 billion) acquisition of broadcasting giant CTV, but barred the companies from entering exclusive online distribution deals until the watchdog finishes its review of vertical integration in the industry.

The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission approved the transaction, which also calls for BCE to take on a $1.7 billion chunk of CTV's debt, after BCE agreed to a number of initiatives designed to improve the country's broadcasting system.
