Wis. Tribal Health Center Immune From Wrongful Firing Suit

By Caleb Symons (May 19, 2022, 9:06 PM EDT) -- A federal judge in Wisconsin dismissed on Wednesday a wrongful termination suit against the Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center, finding the organization immune from those allegations because it is an entity of the local Native American tribe.

Barring an appeal, the decision by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley brings to close a case in which Teressa Mestek, the center's former director of health information, claimed she was fired in retaliation for probing a software issue she said threatened its federal compliance.

In his ruling, Judge Conley rejected Mestek's bid to "put distance between" her old employer and the Lac Courte...
