Nooksack Tribal Council Fired Judge, Chairman Confirms

Law360, New York (April 20, 2016, 6:16 PM EDT) -- The Nooksack Indian Tribe of Washington confirmed Wednesday that it has fired the former chief judge of its tribal court following weeks of speculation surrounding the sudden removal of Judge Susan Alexander during a challenge to the tribal council’s bid to exclude hundreds of individuals from membership in the tribe.

Nooksack Tribal Council chairman Bob Kelly said in an email to Law360 that the tribe's leadership has approved a contract for a temporary judge until a replacement can be found, adding that Alexander’s position with the Nooksack Tribal Court is currently being advertised.
