By Kaitlin Ugolik ( April 8, 2014, 7:38 PM EDT) -- The Museum of Modern Art is reportedly set to move forward with its controversial plan to tear down the American Folk Art Museum on West 53rd Street. An application has been filed with New York City's Department of Buildings for the demolition job, which will cost about $1.6 million, the New York Observer reported. The museum announced its plans to tear down the Folk Art building last year. After many protests, the museum reportedly agreed to preserve the 63-panel sculpture that covers much of the outside of the building. The rest will be torn down and replaced with a structure that will link MoMA galleries with other museum-owned space, plus a residential tower that Hines is developing at 53 West 53rd St., according to the Observer....
