Facebook Hit With Action Over User Images In Canadian Ads

Law360, New York (March 30, 2012, 2:05 PM EDT) -- Facebook Inc. was slapped with a proposed class action in British Columbia on Thursday over its alleged use of members' names and likenesses in advertisements without their consent, the same ads at issue in several suits from consumers in California.

The filing centers on Facebook's so-called sponsored stories, third-party advertisements that target a member's friends on the site by featuring the member's name and portrait. The stories are generated when the member "likes" the advertiser, checks into one of the advertiser's physical locations, or other interactions...
