Do-Not-Track Group To Weigh Shaky Future During Key Call

Law360, New York (July 23, 2013, 8:38 PM EDT) -- The working group tasked with establishing an online tracking standard is heading into a pivotal conference call Wednesday looking to salvage efforts to complete their work by the end of the month, but several participants told Law360 they doubted the group would ever reach a consensus.

The World Wide Web Consortium Tracking Protection Working Group has been trying for nearly two years to create a technical do-not-track standard, and are working toward a July 31 "last call" deadline to present specifications for a browser-based mechanism that would allow consumers to choose if they want to be tracked online.
