Asbestos Claims, Indemnity Payments Down: Report

Law360, New York (June 16, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Asbestos defendants have seen a drop in claims and indemnity payments, as well as an increase in dismissal rates, in recent years as tort reform and investigations into the quality of medical evidence have impacted the litigation landscape, according to a report from NERA Economic Consulting.

NERA compiled data for the study, which was released Tuesday, by analyzing asbestos-related claims reported in the public filings of more than 150 solvent defendants from 2001 to 2008.
