Roche Accuses Accutane Judge Of 'One-Sided' Remarks

By Greg Ryan (January 23, 2013, 6:21 PM EST) -- Counsel for Hoffman-La Roche Inc. told a well-known New Jersey state judge on Wednesday that a series of questionable rulings and "intemperate comments" should disqualify her from overseeing thousands of lawsuits over injuries allegedly caused by the acne medication Accutane.

Roche filed a motion in December asking Judge Carol Higbee to recuse herself from the New Jersey mass tort litigation over Accutane, which started in 2005 and has grown to include more than 7,700 cases. Both plaintiffs and the drugmaker have won verdicts in the handful of cases that have gone to trial, though several judgments for plaintiffs have been overturned...
