J&J To Pay $4B To Settle Hip Implant Suits

Law360, Los Angeles (November 12, 2013, 8:49 PM EST) -- Johnson & Johnson has agreed to pay at least $4 billion to settle thousands of lawsuits over its DePuy Inc. unit’s hip replacements, according to a Tuesday news report.

The company will pay about $300,000 apiece for the removal of the metal-on-metal hips, which patients allege broke down quickly, causing pain and shedding metal into the wearers' bloodstreams, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
