Georgia-Pacific Hit With $9.4M Jury Verdict In Asbestos Trial
By Brandon Lowrey (August 13, 2015, 5:12 PM EDT) -- A Florida jury slammed Georgia-Pacific LLC with a $9.4 million verdict Thursday in a construction worker's lawsuit alleging his work with the company's asbestos-containing products in Saudi Arabia decades ago caused him to develop a deadly form of cancer, finding the company had negligently marketed a defective product.
The jury in Miami set the total amount of damages at $17 million, but found Georgia-Pacific bears 55 percent of the blame for plaintiff Roy Taylor's terminal mesothelioma, and Taylor himself was 15 percent responsible.
