Section 232 Tariffs: More Questions Than Answers

National security was defined far more broadly than the already broad definition adopted in the Commerce Department's October 2001 Section 232 report entitled "The Effect of Iron Ore And Semi-Finished Steel on the National Security." This 2001 232 report included within the rubric of "national security" the immediate defense requirements of the United States as well as the requirements of certain critical domestic industries for finished steel.[1]...
