Texas Lawmaker Aims To Expand Property Rights Protections

Van Taylor on Tuesday introduced legislation to amend state laws governing oil and gas well property rights by including a landowner's mineral rights in the definition of private real property to provide broader protections to landowners.

House Bill 1496 would include mineral rights in state law's existing private-property protections regarding government actions such as eminent domain, expanding such property rights beyond those currently given only to surface owners, Taylor, R-Collin, said in a Wednesday statement.
