Home Depot Settles $28M Suit Over Hazardous Waste Disposal

Law360 (March 8, 2018, 8:04 PM EST) -- Home Depot USA Inc. has agreed to a $27.84 million settlement with the state of California after investigations found that stores had illegally disposed of waste batteries, aerosol cans, paints and electronic devices, in violation of the state’s Hazardous Waste Control Law, the state attorney general’s office announced Thursday.

As part of the deal, Home Depot will pay over $16.6 million in civil penalties to 22 different district attorney’s offices across California, invest more than $2.5 million in environmental protection projects, and dish out $1.85 million...
