Burlington's $1.8M Deal Over Rest Breaks, Bag Checks OK'd

Law360, Los Angeles (December 3, 2015, 9:32 PM EST) -- A California federal judge on Wednesday signed off on Burlington Coat Factory's deal to pay $1.8 million to end a class action alleging it deprived tens of thousands of current and former employees of rest breaks and subjected them to improper off-the-clock bag checks.

In a five-page order, U.S. District Judge Dean D. Pregerson granted named plaintiff Armida Rodriguez's motion for preliminary approval of the settlement, which will see Burlington pay $1.2 million to roughly 22,000 current and former employees plus $600,000 for plaintiffs' attorneys' fees,...
