Those persons know before taking certain actions that spark the discourse on an issue that they will not be successful. The desired result such people seek is change. Indeed, sometimes change only happens when, in a public forum, a public figure is unreasonably denied the ability to perform an act most of us take for granted (e.g., Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali and Mahatma Gandhi).
