Thune Swaps Commerce Panel Chair For Subcommittee Helm

Law360 (January 11, 2019, 7:54 PM EST) -- U.S. Sen. John Thune, the new GOP whip, will trade one committee gig for another when he leaves his position at the helm of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation to lead its subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation and the Internet, the senator’s office announced Friday.

Senate Republican Conference rules forbid Thune, R-SD, from serving as the Republican whip and heading the full committee at the same time, which is why he chose to give up the position he’s held since 2015, according to his office.
