Facebook Hit With Contract, Defamation Suit By App Maker

Law360, New York (October 10, 2012, 11:26 PM EDT) -- App developer Profile Technology Ltd. on Wednesday sued Facebook Inc. for allegedly defaming the app maker and breaching a 2008 agreement by cutting off Profile's access to automated searches of the social networking site's public data.

In a complaint filed in San Mateo County Court, Profile and its managing director, Chris Claydon, said Facebook "abused its power in ways that were fraudulent, oppressive and malicious" when it abruptly closed off Profile's access to automated crawlers, which search Facebook's public parts to look for new app users.
