Apple Seeks $15M Fees Over Patent Co.'s 'Kitchen Sink' Suits

Peter Kang (June 22, 2015, 4:18 PM EDT) -- Apple Inc. urged a California federal judge on Friday to award $15 million in attorney fees and costs in a patent dispute over cellular and voice recognition patents, saying a Nevada patent holding company's "everything but the kitchen sink" approach of frivolous litigation should be deterred by the court.

The tech giant said that the claims brought by Unwired Planet LLC were an attempt "to wring value out of an obsolete patent portfolio" and qualify the case as exceptional, which entitles the prevailing party to a fees award.
