Education Spectrum Will Be 'Gobbled Up' In Auction, Hill Told
Law360 (March 7, 2019, 7:53 PM EST) -- A Federal Communications Commission proposal to auction off vacated portions of the 2.5 GHz band could cannibalize spectrum that is currently dedicated to serving educational purposes and migrate it into the private sector, advocates for nonprofit broadband providers told Capitol Hill staffers during a policy briefing Thursday.
John Windhausen, executive director of the Schools, Health & Libraries Broadband Coalition, told the audience that allowing mobile providers to bid on the valuable spectrum at auction would undercut leasing arrangements that educational institutions have struck with community organizations.
