Deals Rumor Mill: Landis & Gyr, Vapiano, Telefonica

By Benjamin Horney (June 26, 2017, 3:43 PM EDT) -- Two suitors remain in the race to buy Swiss power meter manufacturer Landis & Gyr AG from Toshiba Corp., with Reuters reporting on Monday that the private equity arm of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Canada-based Onex Corp. are the lone organizations left competing. According to the report, which cited three banking sources, a group featuring CVC Capital Partners and Hitachi Ltd. has taken its offer off the table as has Honeywell International Inc. Binding offers are expected in July, the report noted. Toshiba is also readying plans for an initial public offering of Landis & Gyr if neither Goldman Sachs nor Onex winds up making an offer the company is comfortable with, the report added. Previous reports have said a sale of Toshiba's 60 percent stake in the business could bring in as much as $2 billion....
