Facebook Rips Uniloc's Message-To-Call System At PTAB

Law360, Washington (December 12, 2017, 9:14 PM EST) -- Facebook Inc. and WhatsApp Inc. told the Patent Trial and Appeal Board on Tuesday that a patent for a system to initiate a conference call through an instant messaging app owned by serial patent litigator Uniloc USA Inc. failed to advance a previous invention.

The tech companies disregarded as irrelevant Uniloc's purported distinction from prior art, namely that users don’t have to register before joining the conference call. The patent company says a patent application by Shuwu Wu and James Crawford for an IM-to-voice chat system...
