Dallas Juries Favor Business Plaintiffs In High-Dollar Verdicts

By Jess Krochtengel (May 21, 2014, 8:33 PM EDT) -- Dallas juries have been raising eyebrows in 2014, awarding $319 million in an energy partnership fight, $40 million against Baker Botts LLP and a string of other multimillion-dollar verdicts, but longtime litigators say the verdicts reflect the willingness of local jurors to uphold the rights of corporations in business deals and shouldn't make defendants nervous.

Texas litigators say Dallas still deserves its reputation for conservative jurors that aren't likely to send personal injury plaintiffs home with windfall verdicts, but as more and bigger business disputes are ending up in front of juries, it's natural to see corporate plaintiffs winning substantial damages....
