Texas High Court Takes Case On Scope Of Public Info Act

Law360, New York (February 20, 2015, 7:16 PM EST) -- The Texas Supreme Court agreed Friday to hear a case over whether nonprofit Greater Houston Partnership's public funding qualifies it as a governmental body under the state's Public Information Act, and if it is required to comply with a public records request from 2008.

The organization has argued that the trial court erred in ordering the nonprofit to turn over financial information to a citizen who filed a PIA request. The decision was affirmed by the Texas Court of Appeals in 2013, which said the organization's receipt of Houston public funds “to provide economic development and promotion services” qualifies the partnership...
