'Emerging' Technologies Targeted For New Export Curbs

Law360 (November 19, 2018, 2:45 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce on Monday began the process of identifying “emerging” technologies with national security implications that may be subject to tighter export restrictions, opening a new front in the Trump administration’s trade crackdown against China.

Broadly, the U.S. export control system places constraints on sales of sensitive items with potential military uses to certain countries. The system was overhauled in the Obama administration to reduce regulatory burdens, but Commerce now wants public comments on which technologies may be slipping through the cracks.
