5th Circ. Says 3D Gun Printing Co. Can Sue NJ AG In Texas

Law360 (August 20, 2020, 6:50 PM EDT) -- The Fifth Circuit has ruled that New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal can be sued in Texas over his efforts to stop a gun advocacy group from distributing 3D-printed firearm files, saying Grewal's broad actions to stop distribution had established jurisdiction.

Grewal's efforts to stop Texas-based Defense Distributed from disseminating the disputed 3D printing files were widespread, aimed at blocking distribution entirely and not just within New Jersey, the court found. As a result, they affect Texas residents and create personal jurisdiction, U.S. Circuit Judge Edith H. Jones wrote for a three-judge panel in a decision published Wednesday.
