FTC's New Antitrust Tilt To Narrow Its Privacy Focus
By Allison Grande (January 31, 2018, 9:45 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission is likely to continue to dominate as the nation's top privacy and data security enforcer even after a new slate of commissioners with primarily antitrust backgrounds is confirmed, but the new leaders may be more selective in the types of consumer harms they choose to pursue, attorneys say.
After operating for nearly a year with only two commissioners, the FTC is poised for a major and unprecedented leadership shakeup, with the White House recently sending the names of three Republicans and a Democrat to the Senate for confirmation to fill four of the five open commissioner posts....
